As I think back over the course of 2012, I realize that I have made progress with my health and fitness routine. I have not achieved all of my fitness goals, but I am encouraged by the fact that I have incorporated exercise as a regular part of my life. Overall, I lost 11.2 pounds from the time I joined the gym in April until the end of the year. Yay!!! It is not as much as I planned to lose when I started, but I’ll take a small victory over no victory at all. As I analyzed my weekly progress, I realized some of the problems that I encountered that prevented me from losing more weight.
Here are some of the changes that I plan to implement in 2013:
- Exercise more frequently and for longer sessions
- Exercise at home more often
- Take the stairs more often
- Park my car further from the entrance more often
- Drink more water (I already drink between 6-10 cups on average.)
On December 18th, I started my own “Exercise Rewards” program. In this program, I save $1.00 in a jar each time that I exercise, whether the session occurs at the gym or at home. Because I need visual cues, I created a label for the jar and placed the jar on the dresser in my bedroom. When I have accumulated $30.00, I am going to buy myself something special. The item(s) may be exercise-related, but I’m not sure yet. I’ll take each $30.00 reward on a case-by-case basis. I have come to realize that multiple forms of motivation are going to keep me on track.
