I’ve Been Selected! Woman’s Day Magazine’s Live Longer & Stronger Challenge

Header - Post - SubscribeOn June 24, 2013, I officially began the Woman’s Day Live Longer & Stronger Challenge. I am blessed to be able to participate to not only get past “The Plateau” but also lower my blood pressure & cholesterol and reach my goal of losing 78 pounds. LL&S TweetDuring the past 15 months of this journey of good health and fitness, my weight fluctuations have been crazy. For instance, I would lose 4lbs one week. Gain 6lbs the next. My weight loss journey has been extremely unpredictable, even with me exercising on a regular basis. No bueno. I did not become discouraged. Yet, I was quite frustrated by the process. One day in early May, I saw this tweet from Woman’s Day and started typing my email as fast as my fingers would allow!

At the end of May, I learned that I made it to the next round and I scheduled a telephone interview with the magazine. On Monday, June 3rd, I learned that I had been selected, along with five other women, for this fantastic program! I am excited about the possibilities. I have actually lost 6.4lbs since the Challenge began! The best is yet to come. I am very excited about the Challenge. I will give periodic updates to keep you in the loop. Please continue to pray for me as I travel on this leg of my journey of good health and fitness. Here’s some information about the Challenge:

Woman’s Day has been sharing critical heart health information and raising awareness about heart disease in women for decades. Now, we’re taking our commitment to the next level and teaming up with Joy Bauer, Woman’s Day nutrition columnist and TODAY show contributor, to launch the Live Longer & Stronger Challenge. We selected six readers who will work with Joy for the next six months to lose weight, lower their risk of heart disease and change their unhealthy habits—for good.

How are things going on your journey? Please share. You can leave a comment at the end of this post or on the Facebook fan page, Tweet me, or complete the form on the Contact page. Be blessed. Remain encouraged.

First off I would like to say congratulations on your accomplishments!!! I have been wanting to lose weight for a long time now but have yet to get motivated. “Something” always gets in the way. I just need to know how to get around it. Do you have any suggestions on what I could or should do?

Thank you for your comment, Janice. I have a few suggestions. Make a list of the activities that you do. Rank them in order of priority. Tasks that are not important should be eliminated, if they intefere with self-care. Self-care is more than exercising. It also includes getting enough sleep/rest. Sometimes, we just need to rest our brains. Also, you may need to get creative in fitting in exercise. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park your car far from your destination. If you take public transportation, get off one stop earlier than you need to, if that is practical. Get some hand weights and do reps while watching TV. If you have cable, you can access free exercise programs On Demand. If not, YouTube has some interesting exercise channels. If you have a smart phone, many free apps exist for exercising. For example, during the winter, I use the free Nike Training Club app to work on my strength training. I hope this helps.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for reading. Be blessed. Stay encouraged.
